Capturing Snapshots

Snapshots let you capture a point-in-time view of your Dashboard for historical comparison and reporting. They answer the question: “What did our portfolio look like on that date?”

What a Snapshot captures

A Snapshot stores the state of your Dashboard at the moment you take it:

  • Project status summary (the pie chart and status by stage breakdown)
  • Program and Strategic Theme status summaries
  • The Project Outlook bubble chart with all project positions
  • Health Check results

Taking a Snapshot

Click the camera icon in the Snapshots section at the bottom of the Dashboard. The system captures the current state and saves it. You can store up to 10 Snapshots – when you take an 11th, the oldest is automatically deleted.

Viewing a Snapshot

Your saved Snapshots are listed in the Snapshots section with their creation date and time. Click a Snapshot to open it in a new view that recreates the Dashboard as it appeared at that moment. The “Today” indicator on the Outlook chart reflects the snapshot date, not the current date, so you see the portfolio exactly as it was.

Renaming and deleting

Each Snapshot can be renamed to something meaningful (e.g., “Q2 Board Report” or “Pre-Launch Baseline”). Click the rename link next to any Snapshot to update its name. To remove a Snapshot, click the delete link – deletion is permanent.

Printing the Dashboard

Click the print button at the top of the Dashboard page. This creates a temporary Snapshot and opens it in a print-friendly format. Use your browser’s print dialog to print or save as PDF. The temporary Snapshot is automatically removed after viewing.

The print view includes all Dashboard sections except the People Cycle distribution.

Use Case

We like to use Snapshots to create quarter-end summaries. This enables us to store over 2 years of progress direct in VPMHR. We also export the PDF of each quarter snapshot to more permanent storage records.
