Understanding Projects

Projects are the core unit of work in VPMHR. Every initiative you’re tracking – whether it’s a system implementation, policy change, training program, or process improvement – is represented as a Project.

How Projects fit into the structure

Each Project connects to your Organization in several ways:

  • Group (required) – the department or division that owns the Project
  • Program (optional) – the broader initiative the Project belongs to
  • Strategic Themes (optional) – one or more organizational objectives the Project supports

This means you can view your portfolio from multiple angles: by department, by initiative, or by strategic alignment.

The Projects page

Open Projects from the navigation menu to see your full project list displayed as expandable cards. Each collapsed card shows the Project name, its Group, and an overall status indicator.

Filtering and sorting

The controls bar at the top of the page lets you narrow down what you see:

  • Status filter – show All, Active, or Inactive Projects
  • Stage filter – filter by lifecycle stage (Planning, Development, Implementation, Complete, Not Started, or Abandoned)
  • Sort – by Project name, Group, or Stage in ascending or descending order
  • Search – real-time search across all Project fields

Use the “Expand All” button to open every card at once for a quick scan of your portfolio.

Project detail

Click a Project card to expand it. The detail view is organized into six tabs:

  1. Summary – basic Project information and settings
  2. Status – the three-dimensional status model (Scope, Resources, Timing)
  3. Strategic Themes – link the Project to organizational objectives
  4. Resources – assign team members and define their roles
  5. Issues & Risks – track problems and potential risks
  6. Decisions – record key decisions and accountability

Each of these tabs is covered in the posts that follow.
